According to the Japan Dog Preservation Society, the Shiba dog accounts for about 80% of the (6 dog breeds) breeds of Japanese dogs now bred in Japan [When?]. It is also popular outside Japan and is called “Shiba Inu” in Japanese. They are basically classified as small dogs. In Europe, in particular, there are communities where Shiba owners gather.
